AudioSurf - Ride Your Music !
Written by Administrator
You might have heard of many taglines like that , but AudioSurf means it quite literally ! Potentially the next big thing in the PC music experience , AudioSurf adds a completely new dimension to your music experience.
The short story :
Audiosurf is a music-adapting puzzle racer where you use your own music to create your own experience. The shape, the speed, and the mood of each ride is determined by the song you choose. You earn points for clustering together blocks of the same color on the highway, and compete with others on the internet for the high score on your favorite songs.
The Good :
- Simple and addictive gameplay.
- Brand new dimension to enjoy your music.
- Web leaderboards give sense of satisfaction for your high scores on your favorite tracks.
- Costs less than $10.
The Bad :
- Limited game modes.
- Suffers from some technical issues.
- The game may generate a track different than your idea of a good one for your music.
Screenshots & Description :
You control a futuristic craft on a moving, floating track using either your mouse or keyboard. Every track is uniquely different as it is generated by analyzing the music chosen by you. You can pick any MP3, M4A, or WMA file (among a few other formats) that don't use digital rights management. Slower parts of your song will usually send you uphill, while the faster segements will drop you downhill with a rapid progression in speed. It's true that the faster songs are more exciting and the best for collecting points, but the fun with Audiosurf is to experience different tracks generated by your favorite playlist, so slow songs don't lose their place in the otherwise great gameplay.
The game's simple and main objective is to pile up heaps and heaps of points, by running into the different colored blocks that fill the different lanes of the track. The more blocks you cluster together , the more points that cluster earns for you. You earn higher points for clusters made up of "hot" colors ( such as yellow and red ), which are worth more than other frequently ocuring colors like purple and blue.
After finishing a few tracks with little difficulty you may find yourself wondering where the challenge is .. visit the leaderboards and look for your score near the bottom for the challenge to become apparent.
Overall ,a must-experience game with full points for creativity.Hopefully the future versions will be more feature rich and more fun.
