Upcoming Game Consoles

We all have been waiting eagerly for the next generation of video game consoles.I have gathered all the rumors and news scattered around the internet and come up with the following.

Sony PlayStation 4

The next generation PlayStation may arrive sooner than we think.. maybe even in 2009! But based on the past release cycles ( 6 years ), it should come out anywhere between 2011-2012, concluded from the study below -

PS1 was released in 1994
PS2 was released in 2000
PS3 was released in 2006
PS4 will be released ____ probably in 2012 ?

However, taking accelerating technology and growing demand into consideration, it's safe to assume that the PlayStation 4 console may very well be released before 2010.

The PlayStation4 could either turn out to be the state of the art All-in-one media center with Blue-Ray disk support, IP TV and direct downloads or it may be angled towards a hardcore gaming machine with much better graphics capabilities by adding more Synergistic Processing Elements (SPEs) using their Cell architecture ; And also increase the storage capacity to something like 1 Terabyte or more.

Microsoft XBOX 720

In an interview with the head of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business division, Peter Moore, EGM magazine asked him when their next video game console would come out, and also asked if they’d drop support for the Xbox 360 like they did with the original Xbox. He said that they were going to support it “as long as it sold.” Possibly because they saw the Xbox sell well into 2007 despite not producing the console after October 2005.

He said the production team from the Xbox 360 is working on the next Xbox 720 , and theyr'e looking into what kind of CPUs will be available on the market in 2011-2012. That would put the Xbox 360 at a lifespan of 6 or 7 years.

The most speculated / expected features would be a much better Graphics Processing Unit  , an external Power Adapter & better Heat Sink and may inherit Motion Sensing from the Wii's success.

Nintendo Wii 2

Nintendo are selling Wii’s faster than stores can stock them and some may believe that they have no need to replace the Wii just yet, but not everyone has this view and some believe that Wii 1.5 / 2 will be coming in 2010.

The expected upgdrades are much improved processing power & storage capacity to compete with the PS and the XBOX and also support for Blue-Ray disks.

PlayStationPortable 2 (PSP2)

The PSP2 should be available in 2009 - 10, to compete with the upgraded Nintendo DS.

Some features are hinted towards a live streaming video camera, increased flash memory and ofcourse better graphics and processing.

As a hardware tester I can tell u That the Next Gen. of consoles is not expected before 2012, Sony`s new home system is slated for 2014, I know a long time to wait. But I have seen the new Game Boy `Motion`, which is awesome.

Yea, a lot of this was just speculation. As you can see, the PSP2 still isn't out yet despite their claims to the contrary.

This article is so bad its funny, The PS3 picture is of a concept drawing and has the boomarang controller which got dropped way before the PS3 was released. The xbox 360 pic is of a really early concept of the Xbox 360, I found the same picture in 2005 while I was at college creating a history of games console presentation for class. And the PSP 2 is bascially a DS original with PS2P and Sony on it. if sony was to release a touch screen handheld they wouldn't use 2 screens.

I think all this tech. is comming up too fast like AOL, now look at what happen to AOL... same thing may happen to the games, it'll get so high tech, there will be no room for anything new till about 3 years later...

one thing that anoys me is when people think the next xbox is going to be called 720. that makes no sense. 360 stands for revultion a in a revolution of gaming. 720 just makes no sense.
